Description

1. Application

A wind turbine, which is installed on top of a tall tower, collects kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity that is compatible with a home’s electrical system.

In a normal grid tied residential applications, a home is served simultaneously by the wind turbine and a local utility. If the wind speeds are below cut-in speed (7-10 mph) there will be no output from the turbine and all of the needed power is purchased from the utility. As wind speeds increase, turbine output increases and the amount of power purchased from the utility is proportionately decreased. When the turbine produces more power than the house needs, the extra electricity is “sold” to the utility. All of this is done automatically. There are no batteries in this type wind system as it uses the utility as the “battery” component. This turbine and it’s components are not CSA certified and will require an SPE1000 inspection before connection to the utility grid. We are not responsible for this inspection and can not guarantee it will pass as the criteria are entirely arbitrary and subject to the whims of the inspector.

Small wind systems for remote applications or off grid use operate somewhat differently,and batteries are required.

2. Construction and Performance

Unplugged Power Systems turbines are made of strong cast that makes them durable in a variety of conditions. Our turbines can withstand harsh environments such as strong winds and cold weather. Using high performance neodymium permanent magnets, the alternator is high efficient and compact. The unique electro-magnet design makes the bonding force and cut-in speed very low.

4. Application principles

4.1 The wind turbine should be installed in an open and flat area without barriers nearby.

4.2 Off-grid wind turbines generating electric power charged battery banks. When there is no wind, it consumes the electricity from the battery group. Therefore, after discharging, the batteries should be recharged in a timely manner, especially for lead-acid batteries. Users should regulate the consumption capacity of the electrical loads according to local wind condition and the electricity capacity generated by the wind generator. Combined wind and solar systems are highly recommended.

4.3 After passing full wave bridge rectification, the 3-phase AC electricity generated by wind generator is output as DC power, usually are DC24V, 36V, 48V, 120V. The voltage of the battery group should be equal to the DC voltage of the wind generator (after rectification).

4.4 The input DC voltage of the matched inverter should be equal with working voltage of the wind generator (after rectification).

5. Maintenance cycle of the wind generator

5.1 Checking, cleaning and lubricating all rotating parts once per year.

5.2 Before winter, cleaning of the outside and painting if required, also application of lithium grease on exposed surfaces of all fixed connecting parts once a year.

5.3 Lubricating and maintenance of generator main bearing once per operating year.

5.4 Cleaning, rust removing and painting all exposed parts one time per every two years.
